From Inclusion to Inqu[ee]ry: Methods of Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in K–12 Mathematics
This session will focus on how to create more equitable mathematics experiences for LGBTQ+ students in K–12 mathematics. We will discuss examples highlighted in Brandie E. Waid’s November MTLT article, “Supporting LGBTQ+ Students in K–12 Mathematics,” as well as introduce new examples of inclusion and inqu[ee]ry. Participants are encouraged to bring their own ideas, questions, and experiences for this interactive session.

Brandie E. Waid
Dr. Brandie E. Waid is an independent math coach and scholar. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education, specializing in K-12 mathematics and science, and has taught middle and high school mathematics in both New York City and Florida. Brandie is interested in the ways in which students’ intersectional identities manifest in mathematical spaces. Her current focus is on methods of humanizing mathematics for all students, particularly LGBTQ+ students. Brandie can be found on twitter at @MathTeach_BEW.
